Both tracks one and two on the Northeast Corridor carry 25k volts each to power the Acela and Regional trainsets for Amtrak. The electrification project was installed in this region from 1988-1989. The first Acela's were put into service on December of 2000. This photo was taken at Kingston Rhode Island. © JPM

This expanded-stretched image is a version of a high speed danger sign which was inserted here using Photoshop ®. Acela trains pass this and other locations at 150 mph, the high speed is an obvious safety danger. The electrification danger is not as obvious.

This graphic was created by Friends of Kingston volunteer Mike Monahan, a Rhode Island graphic designer living in South Kingston, Rhode Island. The theme of old and new is highlighted by use of the new Acela in contrast to the New Haven vintage diesel passing at each end of the Historic Kingston Railroad Station. Mike offers his services to the Friends organization and to our museum and rail safety projects free of charge. http://www.mikemonahandesign.com/ We also use this image for our RIOL safety book marks. Over 40 thousand have been distributed to date.
