Each summer, Transportation Camp Kids come to visit at the Rhode Island Railroad Museum at Kingston Station. The University of Rhode Island Transportation Center using a grant from the Federal Highway Administration holds transportation camp weeks for young children throughout the Rhode Island Communities.
One of the highlights is for the kids to make a field trip to the Kingston Station. Volunteers of the Friends of Kingston Station greet and host a dual program goal consisting of three parts for the visiting camp kids.
1. Learn about the history of the station and railroading.
2. Learn about railroad safety with a presentation by a certified Operation Lifesaver ® presenter from RIOL.
3. Watch Regional Amtrak trains make station stops, and witness the high speed Acela trains speed past.
